What do we use your donation for?
The Trust stores artefacts and records from many excavations carried out in Thanet over the last two centuries. Each item is stored and preserved for future generations to study.
We have a long term responsibility to store the finds and make them available for people to see and handle. Keeping artefacts in good condition is expensive; packaging needs to be replaced or storage facilities need to be upgraded. Archaeological archives contain paper records and plans which are carefully stored and conserved for the future.
As part of our aim of educating people about the archaeology of the Isle of Thanet we create sets of handling and reference collections from finds in our stores to be used by schools and groups, allowing people to get hands on experience of the finds from their area. The sets can be used to learn in detail about artefact types and fabrics, guided by resources prepared by specialists. Preparing these teaching resources needs additional storage and packaging so that the fragile material can be safely transported.
The Trust currently has no major source of funding for this important job, and we are grateful for donations toward this important work.
Donations help us build and maintain our Virtual Museum of Thanet’s Archaeology and to develop other resources for teaching and display.
